CBSE Latest Exam Reforms: Competency-Based Questions Redefine Student Success
CBSE has announced major updates for the 2025 board exams, focusing on conceptual understanding and real-life application rather than rote memorisation. The number of long and short response questions has been reduced, making way for competency-based items that challenge students to use critical thinking and practical problem-solving.
Now, internal assessments account for 40% of total marks, with project work and year-round testing helping pupils build relevant skills. The final board exam will represent 60%, making the process more continuous and reflective of everyday learning. Students are also required to maintain a minimum attendance of 75% to be eligible for board exams, supporting engagement and classroom participation. Provisions have been made for elite athletes and Olympiad scholars to take exams on alternate dates if they face scheduling conflicts.
Enhanced security policies, biometric authentication, and infrastructure improvements, including a new CBSE sub-regional office in Agartala, are part of the current reforms. These shifts align Indian education with global standards, preparing students for life beyond school.
