Project Udaan RoboRise 2025: Empowering Government School Students Through STEM

Project Udaan RoboRise 2025, held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School in Mumbai, was a spectacular showcase of young talent and innovation from government schools across the city. Organised under Project Udaan by The Innovation Story, this event brought together over 100 teams from more than 35 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools, highlighting the transformative power of STEM education in municipal schools where many students previously had limited access to technology.

Over the past year, Project Udaan has provided more than 100,000 student contact hours, with an impressive 50% female participation, creating a truly inclusive environment. The initiative focuses on digital literacy, robotics, and hands-on STEM training, giving students who may have never used a laptop before the chance to engage deeply with coding, robotics, and innovation. This hands-on experience helps shape them from passive learners into creative problem-solvers and future-ready technologists.

The event featured two main competitions: the “Ludo Showdown,” where students built and raced robotic cars they designed from scratch, and “The Innovation Challenge,” which showcased prototypes addressing real-world problems such as fire-sensing neck belts, smart hygienic toilets, and advanced safety gear for workers. These projects exhibited the students’ ability to apply STEM concepts to practical challenges, demonstrating not only creativity but also community awareness and responsibility.

Chief Guest Ramanan Ramanathan, Chairperson of the National Expert Advisory Council, praised the initiative, highlighting its role in shifting the mindset of students from learners to creators. The founder of The Innovation Story, Meenal Majumder, emphasised the importance of breaking barriers in STEM education, ensuring every child, regardless of background, can innovate and shape the future.

Project Udaan’s RoboRise 2025 is a testament to the power of accessible STEM education to ignite curiosity, foster innovation, and empower government school students to become the next generation of changemakers.
