Inspires Future Innovators in Western Sydney
WithSTEMYouCan Careers Expo 2025 was held in Penrith on 1 July, attracting more than 730 students from Year 7 to Year 10—double the number of attendees from the previous year. Students from 18 schools across 10 local government areas took part in an immersive STEM experience. The event featured 115 STEM professionals from 39 organisations, with 30 workshops and five interactive main stage sessions, covering everything from robotic dogs to the role of viruses in fighting bacteria.
🔧 Hands-On Experiences & Industry Connections
Students engaged directly with professionals from leading organisations including Bosch, Western Sydney University, Phage Australia, and Airbus. These interactive sessions gave students the chance to explore fields such as aviation, robotics, environmental science, and microbiology. Participants praised the event for its real-world relevance, with professionals and apprentices highlighting the importance of sparking student interest early and showcasing accessible career pathways.
🎯 Why It Matters for Pathways in STEM
The expo played a key role in helping students connect their school subjects to real-world careers. One Year 10 student shared how the event helped her decide on senior subjects by revealing new STEM pathways she hadn’t considered. Speakers emphasised that STEM careers are diverse and not always linear, encouraging students to see the value in subjects like trigonometry and environmental science. Organised by Generation STEM, the event continues to strengthen STEM engagement across Western Sydney, supported by education and industry partners.
