CBSE Issues Strict Warning to Schools Over Illegal Fee Collection During Board Registration

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a strong directive to its affiliated schools, cautioning them against collecting any additional fees beyond the officially prescribed examination charges during the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for the Class 10 second board examination.

The move comes in response to multiple complaints received by the board alleging that certain schools were demanding extra payments from students and parents. These reportedly included advance tuition fees for up to three months, collected at the time of LOC submission. Taking serious note of the issue, CBSE has termed such practices a clear violation of its established guidelines and has directed schools to cease them immediately.

In its official circular, CBSE emphasised that the LOC process is solely intended for registering students for board examinations and must not be misused as a means to collect any unrelated charges. “Only the prescribed examination fee is permissible during the LOC submission process,” the board stated firmly, warning that any deviation from this rule would invite strict action against the institutions involved.

The circular, signed by Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj, also outlined the structured process for LOC submission, which is conducted in three clearly defined phases. In the first phase, schools are required to submit candidate details without collecting any fee. This stage primarily serves as an estimate of the number of students expected to appear for the examination.

The second and third phases allow schools to make necessary corrections, additions, or withdrawals in student data, including subject choices. It is only during these later stages that schools are permitted to collect the official examination fee from students.

CBSE reiterated that strict adherence to these guidelines is mandatory for all affiliated schools and warned that any unauthorised fee collection would be taken seriously. The board may initiate disciplinary measures against institutions found violating the rules, including penalties or further administrative action.

This directive reinforces CBSE’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and fairness in the examination process while safeguarding students and parents from undue financial burden. It also highlights the board’s commitment to maintaining integrity within the education system and ensuring that schools operate within the regulatory framework.

Parents and students have been advised to report any instances of unauthorised fee collection to the board, ensuring accountability and compliance across all affiliated institutions.
