CBSE Declares STEM Education as Annual Training Theme 2025

CBSE has officially declared STEM Education—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—as the Annual Training Theme for 2025, profoundly reshaping the way teachers will teach and students will learn throughout the year. This milestone announcement aligns with the goals of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to inject classrooms with innovation, critical thinking, and hands-on problem-solving skills demanded by the 21st-century economy.

Under the new guidelines, every teacher in a CBSE-affiliated school must complete at least 50 hours of professional development annually. This includes 25 hours of specialised training by CBSE or government institutes and another 25 hours through in-house, collaborative, or self-directed activities. Teachers’ board exam duties, research, presentations, curriculum innovation, or digital content creation will also count toward this requirement, recognising the broad range of work educators contribute to student growth.

The board has launched major initiatives to support this theme, most notably the 3030 Eklavya STEM Education Online Series, in partnership with IIT Gandhinagar. This program offers 30 hours of interactive CPD, with each session focused on hands-on STEM activities that help deepen educators’ content knowledge and practical teaching skills. Additionally, CBSE has encouraged school leaders to conduct District Level Deliberations (DLDs) to promote grassroots innovation, encourage best practice sharing, and build vibrant local learning communities focused on STEM.

With school principals acting as change agents and teachers actively upskilling, CBSE’s STEM focus for 2025 promises to energise classrooms and empower the next generation of Indian innovators, scientists, and creators. This forward-looking shift will make learning more experiential, collaborative, and future-ready than ever before.
