Real Sense Emerges as an Independent AI & Robotics Company
Intel has officially spun off its AI, robotics, and biometric venture under the name RealSense, following more than a decade of development within Intel. The newly independent entity has secured a $50 million Series A funding round, with participation from Intel Capital, the MediaTek Innovation Fund, and other strategic investors.
Fueling Innovation: Robotics, Depth Cameras & Hardware Expansion
RealSense specialises in cutting‑edge 3D depth cameras and AI-powered vision systems that enable robots to perceive and interact with their surroundings. Its latest offering, the D555 depth camera, supports single‑cable power and data transmission and comes with built-in AI processing, streamlining integration for autonomous mobile robots and security systems. These depth-sensing solutions are currently embedded in roughly 60% of the world’s autonomous mobile and humanoid robots, serving over 3,000 active customers, including major firms such as Unitree Robotics (China) and ANYbotics (Switzerland).
Strategic Focus on Growth and Long‑Term Potential
With its newfound independence, RealSense plans to accelerate manufacturing scale-up, expand its global go‑to‑market operations, and enhance research and development in AI software and next-gen hardware tooling. CEO Nadav Orbach, who formerly led Intel’s visual-sensing efforts, says this autonomy gives RealSense the agility to innovate faster in the rapidly evolving “physical AI” market. While Intel retains a minority stake, the emphasis is clearly on growing RealSense as a standalone leader in AI vision and robotics, not just positioning it for a potential IPO or acquisition in the future.
