IIT-Delhi Issues Guidelines for Disclosing AI in Academic Work
IIT-Delhi releases new guidelines mandating students and researchers to disclose the use of AI in academic submissions to maintain transparency.
AI in Academia Under Scrutiny
In a significant move, IIT-Delhi has released new guidelines requiring all students and researchers to disclose the use of AI tools in their academic work. This comes amid growing concern over the unregulated use of generative AI platforms like ChatGPT, which can assist in writing essays, solving problems, or even generating code. The institute wants to ensure academic integrity in the age of AI.

Balancing Innovation and Integrity
The new policy doesn’t ban AI tools outright but insists on transparency. Students must specify what kind of AI tools they used and how. The idea is not to penalize innovation but to prevent academic dishonesty. Faculty members have also been advised to adopt AI-aware evaluation methods and revise rubrics where necessary.
A National Framework in the Making
IIT-Delhi’s initiative could serve as a model for other institutes across India. As educational institutions worldwide grapple with AI’s influence, these disclosure norms might be the first step toward a more standardized national or global policy on AI use in education and research
