CBSE Urges Schools to Form 'Sugar Boards' to Curb Student Sugar Intake
CBSE advises affiliated schools to create 'Sugar Boards' to monitor and reduce students’ sugar consumption amid rising health concerns.
Rising Concerns Over Student Health
In response to the growing concern over high sugar consumption among schoolchildren, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a directive urging affiliated schools to establish ‘Sugar Boards’. These committees will be responsible for monitoring the sugar intake of students, following alarming trends in childhood obesity and lifestyle diseases.

A Decade of Escalating Sugar Consumption
CBSE highlighted that sugar intake among children and adolescents has drastically increased over the past decade. This rise has paralleled growing health issues in youth, including obesity, early-onset diabetes, and dental problems. The board believes early intervention at the school level is essential to address these concerns.
Schools to Promote Nutritional Awareness
The newly proposed ‘Sugar Boards’ will work to raise awareness, implement guidelines for canteen offerings, and encourage healthier eating habits. CBSE officials hope that this initiative will promote better dietary choices among students, foster parental involvement, and build a school culture that prioritizes long-term health and wellness.
