More Than 209,000 Students Receive Results

The May 2026 assessment cycle is one of the largest in International Baccalaureate history. More than 209,000 Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme students participated in this year's assessment process, as reported by the IB. The organization also declares the steady growth in the number of IB schools, signifying a growing interest in internationally acknowledged education.

Students may receive their results through IB's official Candidate Results Portal and schools get advance results in the IB Information System (IBIS) for proper student advising and university application process.

Diploma Programme Performance Improves Globally

The 2026 results show continued improvement in overall student performance.

The global average Diploma Programme score increased to 30.88 points, compared with 30.58 points in 2025, indicating steady academic progress across the global IB community.

Schools in several regions also reported:

  • Students achieving the maximum 45-point Diploma
  • Strong diploma pass rates.
  • Increased numbers of students scoring 40 points or above
  • Excellent university placements at leading institutions worldwide.

Education leaders have welcomed the results as evidence of students’ resilience, commitment, and strong academic preparation.

Career-related Programme Continues to Grow

The CP or Career-related Programme is growing in popularity global and is seen as one of the ways students can receive an education that focus on both their professional and academic endeavors.

The programme comprises IB courses and studies that prepare students for a career while enabling them to develop skills that can help them in the workplace.

The institutions are noticing that many students are choosing to study within the CP.

Universities Begin Confirming Admission Offers

With official results now available, universities around the world have started confirming admission offers for successful IB graduates.

Many higher education institutions receive IB results electronically before or at the same time students access them, allowing admissions teams to quickly verify whether applicants have met the conditions of their offers.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Check university admission portals regularly.
  • Monitor official email communications.
  • Submit any outstanding documents promptly.
  • Complete enrollment and scholarship formalities before deadlines.

Applicants who narrowly miss required scores are advised to contact admissions offices directly, as many universities review individual cases based on overall academic performance.

IB Highlights Fair Assessment During Challenging Circumstances

The International Baccalaureate noted that some schools experienced disruptions during the examination period due to regional events. To ensure fairness, the organization implemented its Non-Exam Contingency Measure (NECM) for eligible schools where examinations could not proceed as planned.

The IB stated that the contingency process maintained rigorous academic standards while ensuring students received valid and equitable results.

Education experts praised the organization’s ability to preserve the integrity of the assessment process while supporting affected students.

IB Continues to Strengthen Global Education

The International Baccalaureate remains one of the world’s most respected international education systems, emphasizing:

  • Inquiry-based learning.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Independent research.
  • Global citizenship.
  • Interdisciplinary education.
  • Community engagement.

Universities continue to value IB graduates for their academic readiness, research skills, communication abilities, and capacity to succeed in demanding higher education environments.

The continued expansion of IB World Schools demonstrates growing international confidence in the programme’s educational philosophy and outcomes.

Looking Ahead

The declaration of the IB May 2026 Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme results marks the successful completion of another important academic year for more than 209,000 students worldwide.
