CBSE Activates Class 12 Verification of Marks and Re-Evaluation Portal After Delay, Offering Relief to Students Awaiting Review Requests

After days of uncertainty and widespread concern among students and parents, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially activated the Class 12 Verification of Marks and Re-Evaluation Portal for 2026. The move comes after a delayed launch that had sparked anxiety among students worried about missing critical college admission and counselling deadlines.

The portal, which was initially scheduled to open on June 1, remained inaccessible due to technical maintenance and system upgrades. Students attempting to access the platform encountered maintenance messages, leading to frustration and fears that delays in the review process could impact university applications and scholarship opportunities.

With the portal now operational, eligible students can apply for verification of marks, obtain copies of evaluated answer sheets, and request re-evaluation of specific answers through the online system. The activation has brought significant relief to thousands of students awaiting an opportunity to review their examination results and address potential discrepancies.

STEM Education and Fair Assessment Systems Remain Critical

The dispute has ignited a broader discussion regarding the function of technology in educational evaluation and the difficulties tied to extensive digital transformation. With India's growing embrace of technology-based examination systems, issues regarding transparency, accuracy, and governance have taken center stage in conversations about STEM education

The OSM system was implemented to modernize answer-sheet evaluation by substituting conventional physical checking with digital assessment. Within this system, answer sheets are digitized and assessed online by qualified evaluators. The program aimed to enhance efficiency, minimize manual mistakes, and establish a clearer evaluation process.

Nonetheless, after the announcement of Class 12 results, many students raised complaints about purported answer-sheet discrepancies, unclear scans, unexpected score changes, portal malfunctions, and challenges in accessing verification services. These issues heightened public examination of the system and its execution.

The government's choice to initiate an official investigation highlights the gravity of the issues raised about the assessment process and the procurement system that facilitated the OSM implementation.

STEM Education Requires Trustworthy Assessment Infrastructure

Educational professionals have observed that digital assessment systems can provide considerable advantages when effectively utilized. These systems can enhance efficiency, minimize logistical difficulties, and facilitate management of large-scale examinations. Nonetheless, successful implementation relies on strong infrastructure, efficient quality management, examiner education, and public trust.

The debate has underscored the necessity of ensuring that advancements in technology within STEM Education are supported by robust governance structures and clear oversight procedures. Students and parents anticipate that digital systems will be precise, safe, and dependable, especially since exam results directly impact college admissions and career prospects.

Multiple reports suggest that the investigation will focus on the procurement process related to the OSM system, encompassing claims of irregularities in bidding and vendor selection methods.

One-Member Committee to Investigate OSM Procurement

The Cabinet Secretariat has formed a single-member investigation committee led by S. Radha Chauhan, Chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission. The panel is responsible for investigating issues connected to the acquisition of OSM services and evaluating the concerns raised throughout the execution of the digital assessment system.

Official notifications indicate that the committee has been granted the authority to request help from government officials and specialists as needed throughout the investigation. The report from the panel is anticipated to be submitted in one month.

The investigation comes in response to increasing criticism from students, parents, and community representatives concerning technical problems and procurement-related inquiries associated with the digital assessment platform.

Recent conversations have also concentrated on alterations made during the OSM bidding process and whether those adjustments affected the ultimate contract award.

The inquiry aims to analyze procurement methods, vendor choice criteria, contract stipulations, and implementation choices related to the OSM initiative

STEM Education in India Must Balance Innovation and Accountability

The OSM dispute has emerged as one of the most crucial education governance matters of 2026. Though digital transformation is a key goal for India's education system, specialists contend that modernization initiatives need to be backed by robust accountability structures and clear decision-making procedures.

In India, STEM Education is progressively associated with digital learning platforms, online evaluations, artificial intelligence resources, and technology-driven management. With the increasing integration of these systems into educational functions, upholding public trust will still be crucial.

The government's move to change CBSE's senior leadership and launch an official procurement investigation indicates a dedication to tackling issues brought up by students and parents. Regardless of whether the investigation results in policy changes, procurement adjustments, or alterations to upcoming digital evaluation systems, its outcomes will probably shape the next stage of examination modernization in India.

For countless students, the debate highlights that technological advancements need to be accompanied by dependability, openness, and sound management. With India’s ongoing growth in its digital education landscape, insights gained from the OSM incident could influence the development of more robust and responsible examination systems ahead.
