Initiative Launched to Strengthen Digital and STEM Education in Tamil Nadu.

An important educational initiative aimed at strengthening digital learning and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education has been launched in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This programme, called “DigiArivu Empowering Students Through Tech,” was introduced through a partnership between Samsung India and the United Nations Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI).

The DigiArivu initiative focuses on transforming the learning environment in government schools, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 areas of Tamil Nadu. In its first phase, the programme will be rolled out in 10 government schools across Kancheepuram and Ranipet districts, benefiting over 3,000 students.

Under DigiArivu, school infrastructure will be upgraded to support digital and STEM Education learning more effectively. This includes installing modern classroom tools, enhancing digital connectivity, and creating spaces where hands-on, activity-based learning can take place. The aim is to move beyond traditional textbook methods and help students build practical, future-ready skills in areas like critical thinking, problem solving, and technology.

A key component of the programme is teacher-training. Educators will receive specialised training on innovative teaching methods that combine digital tools with STEM concepts. This training is designed to enhance their capacity to engage students with interactive learning modules and nurture a deeper interest in science and technology.

Beyond academics, DigiArivu emphasises holistic development. Students will have access to career guidance sessions, particularly for senior secondary learners preparing for future educational and employment opportunities. The initiative also plans to organise health awareness camps, distribute sports kits, and support the establishment of libraries all aimed at fostering well-rounded growth and learning.

The programme’s design reflects close collaboration among the government, community members, and Samsung’s local employees to ensure that interventions meet real on-ground needs. By building a community-centric educational model, DigiArivu seeks to connect students’ academic environment with wider social and technological opportunities.

Education authorities in Tamil Nadu see this initiative as part of a larger effort to prepare students for the demands of the digital era. By strengthening digital access and promoting STEM learning from an early stage, the state aims to equip its youth with the skills required to compete in a technology-driven future and contribute to India’s growing digital economy.

In summary, the DigiArivu initiative stands as a forward-looking programme combining digital inclusion with STEM education, teacher development, and student empowerment laying a stronger foundation for future generations of learners in Tamil Nadu.
