Strategic Collaboration for AI in Healthcare
n a major move to advance medical technology in India, IIT Delhi and AIIMS have partnered to establish a Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. This initiative, supported by a ₹330 crore grant under the “Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India” mission, aims to harness AI to solve India’s pressing healthcare challenges—ranging from diagnostics to remote patient care.


Focus on Innovation and Indigenous Development
The AI Centre will focus on creating India-specific AI models and healthcare tools tailored for rural and underserved regions. From improving radiology and pathology diagnostics to managing patient data securely and efficiently, the project places a strong emphasis on innovation rooted in Indian needs. The goal is to reduce dependency on imported AI systems and develop scalable, homegrown solutions.
Upskilling and Integration into National Programs
Beyond technological innovation, the center will prioritize training healthcare professionals and integrating AI solutions into national health schemes. Workshops, research fellowships, and collaborative programs are planned to build a skilled workforce ready to adopt AI-based practices. This strategic move is expected to significantly improve healthcare quality, accessibility, and affordability across the country.
