CBSE Exam 2026: Registration for Private Candidates Begins Today at cbse.gov.in
The Central Board of Secondary Education has officially started the registration process for private candidates appearing for Class 10 and 12 board exams in 2026. From September 9, 2025, students willing to appear as private candidates can apply through the official CBSE website at cbse.gov.in.
Private candidate registration is aimed at students who could not appear for regular board exams earlier or need to improve their scores. This includes those declared ‘essential repeat,’ compartment candidates from previous years (2020–2025), and students who passed but want to enhance their marks in specific subjects. The application window opens today and will close on September 30, 2025; students can also register with a late fee from October 3 to 11.
Candidates must complete the application form online and upload the necessary documents, including previous exam details and identity proofs. The registration fee is Rs. 320, payable online, with an additional late fee of Rs. 2,000 for delayed submissions. CBSE has provided separate notifications and direct links on its official website for Class 10 and Class 12 private candidate registrations to simplify the process. It is essential for candidates to review eligibility criteria carefully before applying to avoid application rejections.
This opportunity empowers students who missed regular exam registration or want to improve performance, ensuring inclusivity and flexibility in the CBSE examination system. It also highlights CBSE’s ongoing efforts to streamline exam processes and support diverse learner needs.
For private candidates planning to appear in the upcoming board exams, this is the crucial starting point. Timely registration ensures a hassle-free examination experience with all necessary documents and payments in order.
